Clan – Clan EP

Clan – Clan EP
Self released – 2013
Rock, Hard, Stoner
Rated: ***

Ever wonder what Kyuss would sound like as an extra-loose, bluesy bar band? Neither have I. However, the results of such a concoction come pretty close to what we get with Clan. Hailing from the UK, Clan certainly employs many early stoner rock trademarks in their sound, as evidenced by the low-slung guitar riffs and bass-heavy sound that permeate the recording. Vocalist/guitarist Matt Pearce’s vocals are pushed up way high in the mix and you can understand every word from his bluesy croon. Clan doesn’t provide much variety in tempo or sound with their arsenal, instead the EP serves as a consistent stream of bottom-end blues dirges. Listeners may be left unfulfilled by the lack of variety but for those who dig slow burning bluesy bar-rock songs, this will suffice as the aforementioned vocals truly take command of the bone-simple song structures being laid down and propel the drunkards (myself included) forward.
