Nixa - Nixa

Nixa - Nixa
Self Released – 2013
Sludge, Doom
Rated: ****

The first thing you need to know about Nixa is that whatever garden-variety sludge you've been sipping on today is about to morph into thin pool of hard rock inferiority. These things happen when sludge this dirty, this heavy, this loud is introduced into the consciousness. Hailing from Miami, FL, the quartet dial in with two tracks that while totaling only 11 minutes find plenty of time to set the tone and leave the listener awestruck. That tone as you may guess is located somewhere between the deepest Everglade swamp and upper portion of the Earth’s mantle, in terms of heaviness that is. The vocals are gruffly shouted in an early Isis manner which suites the group just fine.  Brief respites in the heaviosity seem to be just a way for the listener to catch his/her breath, and for that I’m thankful because when Nixa are at full-blast there is little else you can do, including breathing. In other words, Doom heads arise; you have a new prodigy to worship.
